Someone recently told me that I have a knack for seeing textures. I think that's the biggest reason that I like black and white photography, it really gives you the opportunity to see the different textures. No where are textures more evident than at one of my favorite locations in Fort Fisher, NC. Right before Highway 421 ends, there's a small patch of live oak trees that have eked out a living almost directly on the beach. Over the years, the entire grove has succumbed to the ravages of Mother Nature and living in Hurricane Alley, and now have a permanent look of blowing in the breeze. I think capturing them in black and white allows the beautiful textures of their branches to really shine.
